FONA International Announces Promotions and New Hire

FONA is pleased to announce two promotions and the hiring of a new team member.


Luke Slawek, Vice President Business Units & Innovation Luke brings 14 years of experience in the flavor industry with FONA to his new role leading all our Business Units — Confections, Beverage, Grain and Emerging Markets —as well as our Technology & Innovation and Sensory teams. In his previous role as Confections Business Unit Director, Luke led the flavor creation, applications and marketing efforts of our confections team. He was also the Global Account Executive for one of FONA’s major strategic accounts. Luke serves on FONA’s Board of Advisors and is a Riverwoods Christian Center board member. He is a commercial certified pilot, certified flight instructor, received a B.S. from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is currently enrolled in INSEAD’s International Executive Program.

Trina Murray, Beverage Scientist Trina Murray has been promoted to Beverage Scientist. She has been an Application Technologist in Beverage for more than four years, working closely with customers on projects involving creamers, alcohol and juices. She now works mainly with customers on dairy projects, building open relationships and helping meet their flavor needs. Trina will also begin to work more closely with FONA’s glass encapsulation technology. She has a B.S. in chemistry and microbiology from University College Cork, Ireland.

New Hire

Michael Gundlach, Chemist, Technology & Innovation Michael worked at FONA part-time for nearly a year while finishing his schooling before officially joining the Technology & Innovation team full-time this August. He has worked on and managed a number of technology development projects supporting the needs of our Confections, Grain and Beverage business units in the area of taste modifying, solubilization and controlled release of flavors. He has a B.S. in biological science with specialization in neuroscience from University of Chicago.
